Richly flavoured and generous cropper, this was a pick as a top performer in the SW by John Butterworth who ran a fruit tree nursery in Ayrshire. David Storrie, a nurseryman in the Carse of Gowrie wrote in the early 1900s 'pre-eminent, one of the best dessert apples for Scotland'. So it's well endorsed! Mid-season dessert apple variety developed by the Laxton Brothers in Bedford in 1904 and introduced in 1931.
